You've just received an email that looks suspicious to you? Do you think it's an attempted fraud? We would like to share some tips to help you better identify that kind of attack.

Why did I receive this email?

It's a question almost all victims ask themselves. Keep in mind that in the vast majority of cases, fraudsters don't target someone in particular, but cast a very wide net in order to maximize their reach. They probably got your business email address via social media, search engines, websites, etc

☝️ Good to know: Qonto only contacts you (and will always do) via the email address you used to create your account.

How to detect an attempted fraud?

Phishing is probably the most common attempted fraud.

👉 We tell you everything about phishing on our blog.

Detecting phishing may be hard but no need to panic though. Here are some techniques to avoid being trapped :

  1. If the email you've received contains a link, copy it and paste it manually in a new browser tab. You will quickly spot fake domain names.

  2. If the email invites you to click on a link to view a transaction or perform a sensitive operation, ignore the button and log in manually to your Qonto app. You just have to open a new browser tab, search for app.qonto.com, and enter your login details. That way, it will allow you to control the authentication flow.

  3. If for some reason, you clicked on the link and are redirected to a log in page, pay attention to the following details:

  • What's the domain name? Does it really say app.qonto.com?

  • Are all the buttons working? Most of the time, fraudsters only fake the login page (and forget about other buttons and pages).

If you still have some doubts, feel free to contact us, we would be happy to help you. 🤗
